One of the exciting Middle East projects we have had the opportunity to work on and support the team at Snøhetta with is the Royal Diriyah Opera House in Saudi Arabia.
Honouring traditional Najdi architecture, the design aims to combine the modern needs of a global performing arts and music venue with the architectural traditions and cultural history of the Najdi people. The proposal was created in response to Diriyah's archetypal vernacular, which has traditionally encouraged the growth of oasis communities.
About 3,500 people may be accommodated in the opera house's four venues, which span 46,000 square meters. These venues include a 2000-seat theater for grand plays and headliners, two smaller theaters for multipurpose usage, and a 450-seat rooftop amphitheater with shade for outdoor events.
SpecStudio is employed by Snøhetta to prepare and compile the architectural specification documentation through Concept/ Schematic/ Detailed Design and Tender Stages. Our role also involves managing the overall design team specification documentation process efficiently and meticulously so that the design team and the Client can smoothly address the various stages of the design process.
Scheduled for 2028, the Royal Diriyah Opera House is part of a comprehensive master plan to revitalise the Diriyah area, located on the outskirts of Riyadh.
